Upcoming MFTA Event

Materials for the Arts is a fantastic organization that provides artistic materials to arts programs like Scholastic and Casita Maria. For the last Scholastic exhibit, for example, they got us mannequins and sculpture pedestals. This Thursday they are hosting a very cool event:

Friends of Materials for the Arts presents Storm Systems, an exhibition by Summer 2013 Artist-in-Residence Vadis Turner

33-00 Northern Boulevard, Floor 3, Long Island City, NY 11101

Vadis Turner paints with ribbon and fabric donated by NYC’s fashion industries to the MFTA warehouse. By seeing the transformational possibilities of textiles, she uses ribbons as lines, marks, and brushstrokes, large wads of fabric as stains of color, and smaller pieces as drips of hues. Vadis’ work investigates how repurposing discarded materials can reduce environmental damage to our urban environment.

Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, September 12 from 6 – 9 pm in the MFTA Gallery. The exhibition will be on view Mondays to Fridays from 10 am – 4 pm until the end of December.
