Solitude

Solitude

I sit alone
in a warm, dark room,
and wonder
how long
solitude
will endure.
I sit apart
from the swarming crowd
that buzzes and twitters
like vociferous
parakeets.
I watch
degenerate sighs
gawky, naive caresses–
the buds
that long to
bloom.
I wonder:
what is pleasure?
The roots
that grow
through covered earth,
though
solitude
enshrouds them.
