Sidewalks Of Heaven

today, I

up at the sky
only to see
someone had taken the last bits of chalk
and scraped it all over the sidewalks of heaven

an angel floated by
— or maybe it was a ball of white yarn that
had rolled out of someone’s white purse
(everything was white in heaven)–
once i was told that angels don’t look like
angels because God was in such a rush
to have them live in paradise
so he just haphazardly made them out of balls of cotton

well the cotton angel yarn boy—-maybe it was the dog that

onto the subway tracks last year—
peered over at the crushed chalk
and stamped it out with his toe

and i watched all this from down

below.
with wind blowing my hair all over my face
the scattered chalk crumbs and the cotton angel yarn boy –dog (?)– ran away
and once i got my hair to behave
i found that someone had
watered down the sidewalk
to reveal a bright cerulean blue
