Numb, et al

Numb

I am listening
but not hearing the words entering my mind

I am touching
But cannot feel the world beneath my skin

I am speaking
And yet not an utterance leaves my lips

Going through the motions
And yet cannot grasp the world
spinning around me

Suffocating under the words
filling my mouth, words
that cannot escape

I am numb in a world of feeling,
I am blind in a world of colors.

To Be Infinite

There is a star
Above
The left hand corner
Of the building next door.

And in five years,
It will still be there

And in ten years,
It will still be there.

And when the descendants come
And visit grandma and pa
It will still be there.

This is what it is to be infinite.

Noise

She was
Silent
And yet
Her presence
Louder than any other

A child
Yelling
Screaming
Crying
Sounds like a whisper

A dog
Whining
Barking
Whimpering
A mere afterthought
To the noise surrounding
Her silent stillness

Unmoving
Unstirring
Unvocal
Yet the power
She held
Was deafening
